we underestimate one of Googleââ¬â¢s most useful tools when it comes to job search Google Alerts. Google Alerts can be extremely helpful for job seekers, and they are free! Im grateful to have colleagues who know about things where I do not have particular expertise. Google Alerts is one of those things! Google Alerts are valuable for job seekers and business owners alike. Heres a great guide on how to use them! Guest post by Susan P. Joyce For most of us, Google has become an integral part of our lives. We use it to find the closest gas station, the best cranberry sauce recipe, the correct spelling for antidisestablishmentarianism, and hundreds of other things every day. And yet we underestimate one of Googleââ¬â¢s most useful tools when it comes to job search: Google Alerts. Google Alerts can be extremely helpful for job seekers, and they are free! What Are Google Alerts and How Do You Set Them Up? Google Alerts are queries that you design, and that Google runs automatically once you set them up. You receive an email for each alert, with any new content Google has found since the last time it sent you a report. As long as you stay within Googleââ¬â¢s 1000-alert limit, you can add, delete, or modify alerts any time you choose. Google offers detailed advice for you on how to set up Google Alerts. Here are some easy basics: Simply go to google.com/alerts, and type in your query and your email address. Once you have entered your query, you can specify the source (web, news, blogs, etc.), language, and region/country. Often, the default settings are fine. If the ââ¬Å"Alert previewâ⬠shows you the content you want, enter your email address, click on the ââ¬Å"Create Alertâ⬠button, and you are done. Sit back and eagerly await your reports! Benefits of Using Google Alerts in Your Job Search Spending the time and energy to set up Google Alerts carefully will pay off both now and in the future. If you are a job seeker, you can use Alerts to find the best new job and employer for you and keep your online visibility as positive as possible. Google Alerts may help you with key job search activities: Expanding your personal and professional networks. Finding jobs and other professional opportunities. Researching companies to prepare for job interviews. Gathering information about your industry and/or profession. Learn which employers (and people) to avoid. Think youââ¬â¢d remember to run searches on all these topics every day? Think again. Instead, let Google Alerts do the work for you. The Google ââ¬Å"early warningâ⬠will help you stay up-to-date and, hopefully, ahead of your competition. To get the benefit of Google Alerts, of course you must actually open and read them on a daily (or at a minimum, weekly) basis. Donââ¬â¢t let this precious information get stale! Google Alerts for Job Search ââ¬â The Breakdown Hereââ¬â¢s how to use Google Alerts for some of your most important job search activities. 1. Monitor your online reputation. The Google results associated with your name, even if it isnââ¬â¢t really you, will likely be seen by your network members, as well as by recruiters and potential employers. You canââ¬â¢t afford not to know what Google is showing when people search on your name! While some say that Googling your own name is ââ¬Å"ego surfingâ⬠or ââ¬Å"vanity Googling,â⬠I prefer to call it ââ¬Å"Defensive Googling.â⬠So, set up Google alerts on various forms of your name, particularly the one you use most often professionally. Be on the lookout for something ââ¬Å"badâ⬠ââ¬â trashy comments in social media, report of a drunk-driving arrest, or any unsavory or unprofessional activity. Then, do your best to distance yourself from that person and situation, including, potentially, sending out a message to recruiters you are working with or your friends in a professional group, carefully explaining that you are not that person. If you want help with researching and managing your online reputation, you might want to check out brandyourself.com. 2. Monitor your target employers. Hopefully, you have a list of specific employers that interest you. You know people who work there, or you are a fan of their products and services, or they are the largest employer in the area. Set up a Google Alert based on each company name. Add additional employers as you find good candidates. Pay attention to the names of senior executives brand names of products and services names of major business partners company location â⬠¦and consider adding those names as new alerts. Then, when you receive an alert about a person or company that is relevant or interesting, consider reaching out to someone- for instance, congratulate them on a new award or contract, or ask about the reorganization at their company. 3. Stay up-to-date with your network. Knowing what is happening with old friends and former colleagues can help you strengthen your personal network. Even simple actions, like a short email when a connection receives recognition, becomes a parent, or has some good (or even bad) news, will make a difference. Set up Google Alerts for the favorite names in your network to learn about interesting things happening in their lives. 4. Keep current with your industry or profession. Thinking you have nothing more to learn about your profession can be the beginning of the end for your career, while staying abreast of events and trends in your industry is essential to moving your career forward. So, use Google Alerts to monitor things like emerging technology, major employers, thought leaders, and even national conferences or local professional gatherings. Google Alerts will keep you relevant if you play your cards right! Bottom Line Google has provided us with a very handy tool in Google Alerts. If youââ¬â¢re not using it, youââ¬â¢re missing out on a great resource for your job search. If youââ¬â¢re using Google Alerts already and getting value, or if you start using them after reading this article, please share about your experience! Online job search expert Susan P. A Basis for More Concise Wording
A Basis for More Concise Wording A Basis for More Concise Wording A Basis for More Concise Wording By Mark Nichol One clear sign of a sentence that is a candidate for conciseness is the noun basis, especially when it appears in the phrase ââ¬Å"on a/an [blank] basis.â⬠Whenever you are tempted to write such a phrase, or you find as you review a piece of your writing that you have already done so, seek an alternate path. For example, in the sentence ââ¬Å"We conduct an audit of our company on an annual basis,â⬠reduce the phrase ââ¬Å"on an annual basisâ⬠by deleting all but the adjective annual and converting it to an adverb: ââ¬Å"We conduct an audit of our company annually.â⬠(The sentence can also be abridged by moving the adjective to modify the first noun in the sentence instead, as in ââ¬Å"We conduct an annual audit of our company.â⬠) If basis evades your vigilance, watch for terms of frequency, such as daily, weekly, and monthly. This solution works for adjectives that generically refer to frequency as well: ââ¬Å"The maintenance crew inspects the structure on a periodic basisâ⬠is easily revised to ââ¬Å"The maintenance crew inspects the structure periodicallyâ⬠or ââ¬Å"The maintenance crew periodically inspects the structure.â⬠Sometimes, the revision isnââ¬â¢t so straightforward. For example, the sentence ââ¬Å"He was advised to seek counseling on an ongoing basisâ⬠cannot be altered in the format of the first of each pair of revisions above, because ongoing has no adverbial form, although the second alternative is valid: ââ¬Å"He was advised to seek ongoing counseling.â⬠Use of the basis phrase isnââ¬â¢t egregious, and eradicating its every instance is not necessary, but avoid it for the most part, and beware of multiple instances in the same piece of content, especially in proximity. Basis, adopted into English directly from Latin, originally came from Greek, where basis meant ââ¬Å"step.â⬠The sense in Latin and English is ââ¬Å"foundation,â⬠and like its close cousin base, basis is fundamental in English, but it is easily overused, and ââ¬Å"on a/an [blank] basisâ⬠can become tiresome, especially in repetition. The same is true of ââ¬Å"in a/an [blank] mannerâ⬠and similar constructions, which can also be reduced to more concise phrasing. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Marketing presentation coninstar company PowerPoint
Marketing coninstar company - PowerPoint Presentation Example Meaning a significant change in price has little impact on quantity demanded. Therefore, a small change in prices does not affect such products (Coinstar, 2014). Queency juice can be priced the same as those of competitors; it can be priced at a reduces price as compared to other market competitors or can be priced at a higher price. Coinstar may also consider cost-based pricing in order to regain costs that have been incurred in coming up with new product. Three approaches may be used: Coinstar will introduce a new product, Queency juice, in the market by setting the prices to be high reason being the company offers a mystique and unique product that will be highly valued by customers. The product mainly targets affluent members of the society and is prestigious. The strategy is appropriate because it considers customers who are only willing to pay high prices hence potential customers will not be forced to buy the product (Smith, 2012). The culture of Coinstar in promoting a new product involves participating in charity events, that are not only unreliable but also expensive and time consuming as it involve distributing Queency juice for free despite the higher cost of producing it. During special events such as sports, the direct marketing executives will be involved in creating awareness about Queency drinks. The marketers will give free samples to the audience and the players so that the can have a test of the product. Customers will be taught about the new product free of charge. The Company will also create a new website where awareness of the new product can be created. Advertisement is a very vital tool that can be utilized in product promotion. It should be catchy in order to stimulate demand. Coinstar will also participate in special events such as sports as a way of promoting its new product where free samples of the new product will be given to the participants. Promotional

Chinatown Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Chinatown - Case Study Example Water has a sexual meaning in the movie and this is portrayed by the different characters present lie Jake and Cross from the movie. Water is a very essential commodity for both internal and external use. Poor planning in the water system may not achieve the desired effect on urban planning because good urban centers have stable water supply system. Transparency in the urban water commission enhances urban development as individuals are attracted to places with availability of such factors like water and security. Urban centers are characterized by large populations who cannot stay permanently in areas without water for a long period, therefore, most urban planers take into consideration the availability of water when erecting structures or drawing up the map of a new urban center. Suburbanization is eminent in Chinatown movie by the culture presented by the film producer in the movie. A perfect example of the differences in the suburbs is the presence of the Mall which greatly differs in the different areas mentioned in the movie. Urban growth and suburbanization are a process where developments happen gradually and within a set period of time. It is traced through the obscure era when there was scarcity of resources to an era when the mission of drought management, water quality and good control of the environment is achieved. Urban growth must be accompanied by a tremendous increase in the population of individuals within a given urban center. The increase in the urban centers will promote the development of suburbanization since there will emerge class difference amongst the individuals living in the area. Political corruption is an issue of concern in Chinatown movie. An example is that Polanski flees from the unfair verdict of the judge who was corrupt and wanted to wreck political career. The movie is filled with issue of political and moral corruption and this lies the political planning of the movie.

Sin of Adultery in Hawthornes The Scarlett Letter Essay -- essays res
The Scarlet Letter, a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, shows the adverse consequences caused by adultery between Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne. Dimmesdale and Hester committed the supreme sin of the Puritan society they belong. They must both deal with the effects of the scarlet letter. Pearl, the daughter of the two lovers, continuously punishes Hester for what she has done. Dimmesdale can only see Hester and Pearl when others will not find out or see. Hester finds a way to support herself and daughter, and at the same time, puts a mark on the possessions of some who are a part of society. The sin of adultery created repercussions that were shared and individually experienced by Reverend Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne. The scarlet letter is worn by Hester as a repercussion of her adulterous sin to make known her crime of passion throughout the whole story. Hester has the choice to leave town and would no longer have to wear the scarlet letter. ?On the outskirts of the town, within the verge of the peninsula, but not in close vicinity to any other habitation, there was a small thatched cottage? (71). The cottage is Hester?s home. Hester feels by staying, she is not letting society control her and acknowledging what she has done. Hester?s action of staying in town shows her strong, self-determined spirit. Hester refuses to deny the sin because it defines who she is. Knowing the town will not help her, Hester turns to needlework to help support herself and daughter, Pearl. The things she makes are very beautiful and delicately done. (232-233) Everyone now knew and just as soon as he revealed the sin, the sin killed him while up on the scaffold. When Hester and Dimmesdale had an affair, they never knew how much it would affect the rest of their lives, thus their one sin defined their very existence. Hester proves to be a very strong and able person through all the triumphs she faces. She remains a great mother even when Pearl reminds her of what she has done. Dimmesdale continues to see Hester and Pearl, but only when no one else will find out. Dimmesdale can not handle the guilt he keeps inside for seven years and it brings him to his death. Hester and Dimmesdale both commit the sin of adultery, but the sin empowers Hester and kills Dimmesdale.

Discuss the Role that Alfieri Plays Essay
Arthur Millerââ¬â¢s A View from the Bridge is a modern tragedy set in 1950ââ¬â¢s Brooklyn about a manââ¬â¢s obsession with his niece, and what that obsession ultimately brings about. Eddie Carbone, a hard- working dockworker is the tragic hero of the piece who struggles with how he feels about his niece, Catherine. Miller manages identify and raise many themes concerning the people who lived in the area in which the play was set, themes such as family, justice, respect and death, themes that played a big part in society during that era. Alfieri is the narrator of the play; he is like a sort of Greek chorus in the sense that he divides the scenes with monologues, he also explains to the audience the themes and adds depth to the play. From the very beginning of the play Alfieri hints towards tragedy, he does this a few times in his prologue, for example, he says: ââ¬Å"I am inclined to see the ruin in things,â⬠This tells the audience or readers straight away, at the beginning of the play that Alfieri can see that Eddieââ¬â¢s story is going to end in disaster. Towards the end of the prologue, it is clear that Alfieri can do nothing to avert the play from tragedy. ââ¬Å"another lawyer, quite differently dressed, heard the same complaint and sat there as powerless as I, watched it run its bloody course. â⬠The quote explains that nobody could do anything to change what is going to happen. It also hints that blood is going to be spilt and someone is going to die. When Marco and Rodolfo first arrive they act very differently, Marco enters the house greets everyone and shows Eddie a lot of respect and thanks him, whereas Rodolfo does not show any gratitude toward Eddie at all. The stage instructions show that Eddie, whenever he asks a question about them, he goes to Marco and totally bypasses Rodolfo. Eddie shows hostility towards him from the very beginning, for example, when Rodolfo starts singing ââ¬Å"Paper Doll,â⬠Eddie interrupts and warns him that by singing it could raise suspicion about them because singing is different and as Eddie says: ââ¬Å"Because we never had no singers hereâ⬠¦ and all of a sudden thereââ¬â¢s a singer in the house, yââ¬â¢know what I mean? â⬠Eddie begins to act differently, jealous that he is no longer getting all the attention in the house, instead, Rodolfo is getting all of the attention from the women, he doesnââ¬â¢t like this so he stops him from singing and uses the excuse above to regain control of the household. The first time Eddie meets Alfieri to see if there is any legal action he can take against Rodolfo to get him away from Catherine. He is now incredibly jealous of Rodolfo and Catherineââ¬â¢s relationship, this is because of his incest feeling for ââ¬Å"Katyâ⬠, Alfieri tells him about how he feels is wrong during their meeting: ââ¬Å"We all love somebody, the wife, the kids- every manââ¬â¢s got somebody that he loves, heh? But sometimesâ⬠¦ thereââ¬â¢s too much. You know? Thereââ¬â¢s too much and it goes where it mustnââ¬â¢t. â⬠Eddie cannot admit these feelings, and gets annoyed that he canââ¬â¢t do anything without immigration officers finding out about Marco and Rodolfo because it would involve betrayal, and that creates conflict within him. On one hand, he could betray Marco and Rodolfo and go against every thing he stands for by telling immigration, but on the other he could leave things as the stand and sit back to watch Catherine get married to Rodolfo and push his feelings aside. It is because Eddie cannot push his feelings for ââ¬Å"Katyâ⬠aside that he dies, whatever he did he could not let her grow up. As Alfieri said, he did love her too much in the wrong way. This play could have ended many ways without violence, for instance, if Eddie forgot about his incest feeling or if Marco could have forgiven Eddie and apologised when Eddie demanded for ââ¬Å"his name,â⬠maybe the characters would have acted differently, but because they did not this play demonstrates many examples of betrayal, justice, honour, death and many other themes. Alfieri provides link between scenes and helps the audience understand Eddie and in a way the way he thinks.
